This feels like a national day of mourning
On the cusp of making history, history has taken a tragic turn.
The lump in my throat from the pride and the excitement and hopefulness I was feeling as I cast my vote for Hillary Clinton yesterday, has now changed to choking on revulsion and fear.
There are no words.
But we can’t remain silent.
As Hillary Clinton famously said “It’s not whether you get knocked down , its whether you get back up.”
Half the country has openly voted for the oppression of minorities and LGBT’s and women’s rights. Our voices are needed more than ever. Here is a list from Jezebel from organizations that work to fight for the rights of our most vulnerable population and ways you can volunteer or donate.
Envisioning The American Dream 
I can’t understand it. In only one year, what started as a laughable prospect has become sobering – ominous – reality.
One wonders what great men like Washington, Jefferson, Franklin and Paine would say if they were alive today.

Woke up to the election results here in the UK, so shocked ( total understatement!). The World will be watching with trepidation.

I am filled with deep deep despair and embarrassment that our country could choose this brash, racist,xenophobic inexperienced, unpredictable individual as a commander in chief, when we had the choice of a brilliant, capable, highly qualified woman. The world must be slack jawed.

As a country we just have to make the best out of this situation. Now the real job begins, we will see if Trump can keep up with the job.

It is only hours later as this sobering news is settling in that I realize the essential importance of speaking out and giving voice. As Toni Morrison said,”This is precisely the time when artists go to work.”

Here is something essential to remember from Michael Moore: “You must say this sentence to everyone you meet today: “HILLARY CLINTON WON THE POPULAR VOTE!” The MAJORITY of our fellow Americans preferred Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Period. Fact. If you woke up this morning thinking you live in an effed-up country, you don’t. The majority of your fellow Americans wanted Hillary, not Trump. The only reason he’s president is because of an arcane, insane, 18th-century idea called the Electoral College. Until we change that, we’ll continue to have presidents we didn’t elect and didn’t want.”

I can honestly say that I read as much as I could about all the candidates. Fat lot of good it did me. H. Clinton was the only really qualified candidate and she didn’t even win by a wide margin. That is truly sad.

Absolutely. I was shocked. In the UK the “Brexit” vote was based on around a 70% turnout, which I thought was poor, but a 56% showing for POTUS is pathetic. That means that 44% of the voting public should not be allowed to voice their opinions on the matter as they couldn’t be bothered to complete a ballot. Perhaps this is also something we should consider when we demand that other nations follow our hard-won democratic model that, ironically, more that 2/5 of us don’t use…

You’re right. We can’t remain silent. We have to rise up, spread love, volunteer, donate to organizations like Planned Parenthood, and continue to be active in our community. I’m still sad, yes. Angry, oh yeah! Frustrated – beyond belief. But as a member of the LGBT+ community, I need to be strong. (new follower, btw) 🙂

First, welcome to my blog, hope you continue to enjoy and explore my other posts and know you have found a safe and supportive place to share your views. I am heartened by the outpouring of outrage and the continual protests and marches that continue throughout the country. I marched in NYC on Sat where we walked up to Trump Tower and it was an affirming and powerful experience to be surrounded by such a diversity of people sharing their pain, anger, fears and disbelief and commitment to social justice. This is not the time to be silent. We are looking out for each other’s back.
