Sitting around the comfortable kitchen table with America’s newest favorite housewife Katie Britt shooting the breeze, was intended to make you feel you were spending time with a familiar folksy neighbor. Which it might have been if you happened to live in Gilead, the totalitarian society where The Handmaid’s Tale takes place.
All that was missing was a cup of Folgers. And sanity.
This Stepford wife wannabee delivered the most overwrought, disjointed dialogue that some compared to an endless ASPCA voiceover. As if America is a shivering dog tied up under a stripped rusted-out car.
Bordering on psychopathic, the 42-year-old freshman senator from Alabama spent much of her time fearmongering, rapidly cycling back and forth between a dimply, smiling Stepford wife to demented hushed tones and intensely graphic warnings of death and carnage.
In The Kitchen With Katie
Long before she spoke, the Britt team circulated a memo filled with talking points that now seem about as dissonant as the speech itself. From the New York Times:
“She came off like America’s mom — she gets it,” the document helpfully suggested. “She’s one of us. That’ll be families’ takeaway watching this.”
But Ms. Britt also came across like Ronald Reagan, it declared. “The conclusion of her border section was a real ‘Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall,’ moment,” another talking point said, referring to Reagan’s historic speech in Berlin. … The talking points compared her State of the Union response to some of the most famous oratory in American history, calling it “reminiscent of Reagan’s message of that Shining City on a Hill.”
Comparing Ms. Britt to Mr. Biden, the document suggested saying that “it wasn’t just the massive age gap/contrast between the two” but that Ms. Britt “exposed a relatability gap — a truly generational schism.” …
“His speech was tone deaf,” the talking points declared before either Mr. Biden or Ms. Britt had uttered a word. “Hers was the perfect pitch.”
Perfect Pitch?
I don’t know about the pots, but there were plenty of pans for Katie’s kitchen kerfuffle.
But, like any dog whistle, I wasn’t tuned into the pitch. I was not her audience. For those who believe an adulterer and convicted rapist like Trump is their salvation, her delivery may have turned out just exactly right.
Just like the apple pie she was baking in the oven.

I make a habit of listening to the other party’s response to the state of the union speeches, but this was the first one I didn’t get through. She lacked gravitas. I turned the channel after the first few minutes, frankly, because she came across as a Barbie trying to be a big girl. I am sure there are people, women, in the GOP who could give a credible speech. This one wasn’t she.

She was an alleged rising star in the GOP, but this should shoot down her future prospects.

She’s exactly what they’re going to relate to. And it’s terrifying. I’m so sorry, Sally.

That’s right. That kind of fear mongering especially when it is about migrants is what passes for news on Fox etc, so she was preaching to the choir.

Her rebuttal probably plays well in her particular state. How many times did she repeat the word ‘rape’ anyway? I felt violated just by hearing her schizophrenic speech and trying to understand the state she lives and dwells in. I wonder if Katie realizes that that ‘woman that was raped repeatedly’ will be forced to carry and deliver her rapist’s child. What it must be like to co-write the border bill and then vote against it because you don’t actually want to solve the problem but only complain about ‘illegal immigrants’.

Looks like Katie’s story was completely dismantled. Oooops!

Yup, and still she tries to hold onto it claiming in an interview that she didn’t say what she said.

With falsehoods and misrepresentations Katie has authored her legacy, Katie – a minor footnote in the history of the Trump Republican 2024 debacle.

Katie Britt’s human traffic story was a “wild misrepresentation, amounting to a lie”. It happened in Mexico during George W. Bush’s term as President. She using the story to create a false association with President Biden. Most Americans won’t research the story to get the facts. It’s all over the internet now. Britt is a failure to the GOP and liar for the rest.

Yes, she was called out on it not long after her fabrication, and she lamely tried to walk it back.
