To me, Trump is the Grinch who stole the New Year.

In fact, he committed grand larceny –hijacking the entire year of 2025, looting democracy, demolishing decency, stealing food out of starving children’s mouths, while robbing us of any semblance of normal life.

I will not be misty-eyed this New Year’s Eve. The only thing to toast about the year 2025 will be its end.

To me, December 31st feels like the close of a Twilight Zone episode, with the familiar ending that is shocking, revealing a character’s deepest fear or a harsh reality, leaving the viewer with a lingering sense of unease or profound realization.

While some revelers may be celebrating the dawn of 2026 when the crystal ball drops in Times Square, I am not as optimistic. I envision Rod Serling narrating the scene at a gilded Ma-a-Lago where surgically enhanced merrymakers cheer wildly at the stroke of midnight when “The Year of the Aryan Nation” officially begins, as calendar pages flip backward as though in a retro black and white movie.

I fear a new year will not stop Donald Trump and his ghoulish sycophants from continuing on their rapid time travel back to the past, not satisfied until we all land squarely in his mid-century America.

That golden, mythical time when white supremacy, Christianity, and patriarchy were revered.

Men were men and girls were girls. No one worried about DEI or trans folks in sports. Women cheerfully turned out babies with the efficiency of brand new Chevies rolling out of our automobile plants,  while their husbands worked in the all white factories. The streets were safe and crime-free, and Latinos, Blacks, and the LGBQT community remained hidden in the shadows where they belonged. Immigrants and migrants desperately seeking asylum stayed away. They are not part of Trump’s vision of America.

Mid-century America was a very black and white world, and not just on your TV Screen. And that’s just how Trump and Project 2025 want to keep it. To them, 2026 is The Year of the Aryan Nation when their plans can come into fruition.

That’s the signpost up ahead- you are now entering the Twilight Zone.
