Rehoming A Red State Dog in a Blue State of Mind

My liberal lab rescued from a red state is now true blue. I hugged the MAGA right out of him.

It took less than a week to turn my red state dog Moe blue. And it didn’t take Taylor Swift or a convoluted right-wing conspiracy to do so.

I just hugged the MAGA right out of him.

Last month when I picked up my Louisiana rescue dog in Nanuet, New York it was at the last stop of his four-day excursion through the heart of Trump country. When I spotted him standing on the edge of the 18-wheeler truck sporting a red MAGA cap and totin’ a  good ol boy shotgun, I knew I had my work  cut out for me.

Moe in his red state mode

What happens when a labrador retriever from Louisiana accustomed to the sound of Fox News playing non-stop finds himself suddenly and quite improbably living with a progressive family in a blue state? Overnight he’s had to adjust not only to the cold winter weather, but the sound of liberal media droning on morning, noon, and night.

MSNBC is the soundtrack to my day. Stuck in a blue bubble,  I wake up to the droning sound of Morning Joe and fall asleep to the voice of Lawrence O Donnel. Even if I am not watching the pundit’s words echo in the room acting as a soothing psychic balm, confirming the righteousness of my worldview.

It was an improbable match, a redneck dog from below the Maison Dixon line coming to live with a liberal New York family of Jews. Sure I grew up on the South Shore of Long Island but my southern roots ended there. I was a progressive Noo Yawker to my bones.

But one look into Moe’s intelligent, and deeply compassionate eyes told me that deep inside beat the heart of a liberal Lab.

Once in my home and a few days with non-stop MSNBC and Rachel  Maddow, old memories of Newsmax, and Tucker Carlson would be as distant as the neglect in his original family.

The truth is Moe didn’t have an ounce of MAGA mob mentality in his kind and loving soul.

Watching him work the diverse crowd at the dog park yesterday, extending his friendly paw to every single dog owner regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation, he was a born politician. All he needs now is his Biden bandana to get out the vote.

Moe Knows

Morning Moe

Moe has seen the perspective of both sides of the political divide and his perspective is a valuable one. Which is why I am tuning in to “Morning Moe.”

Joe Scarborough gets on my nerves.

Tired of the mindless rambling of that gasbag Morning Joe constantly yelling over his guests, and making sure every chance he gets to let his viewers know he served in Congress, along with his blathering sidekick Mika,  I’ve just switched to “Morning Moe,” featuring someone who really did fall off a turnip truck.

Hosted by Moe “ Kingfish” Katz, a former red stater who has suddenly and inexplicably found himself living in a deep blue state with a bunch of progressives, Morning Moe offers a unique and informed perspective on the current political issues that divide us.

Yes, Joe Scarborough wears me out, too. It annoys me how he over-talks Mika all the time and I appreciate how much more gets covered on those days he’s not on. Over-talking guests, too, bugs me. (I have the MSNBC strategy as well. Living in MAGAlandia, it’s the only way to survive.)
