Where Have You Gone Joe?

Watching last night’s debate was jolting.

Like many, I was expecting “ Joltin’” Joe to knock it out of the park, effortlessly batting away the torrent of bald-faced lies spewed by Donald Trump. Instead, we watched a frail and at times befuddled old man stumble and mumble, unable to step up to the plate. The unrelenting barrage of falsehoods just sucked the air right out of the room leaving a weak Biden gasping for air.

Joe needed to show the American public he wasn’t too old to be president.  But sadly last night he failed. For months I have dismissed those who claim Biden is too old, too infirm unable to handle the pressures of being president, defending him at every turn.

But now doubts creep in.

Republicans are having a field day after last night’s debate. NY Post June 28, 2024

The optics last night made it clear.

Donald Trump can never be president again

But sadly as it appeared, Joe may not be able to either.

The Oval Office is no place for a serial liar, insurrectionist, and convicted felon.

Nor is it a place for an enfeebled, frail old man. Not for four long years

Joe Biden State of the Union Address 2022

I don’t want to give up on Joe.

I love Joe. No one is more principled. I deeply admire his values, and how he has governed. History will serve him well for all his accomplishments.

But history will not serve him well if he doesn’t now step aside and let someone else be the democratic nominee. Even if he recovers from this, I don’t believe his poor performance is merely the result of a cold and he would have four long years of high pressure ahead of him if re-elected.

The stakes are just too high.

Of course, he’s still the best choice when the choice is fascism. But maybe the Democrats need to look at other choices.

This is sad for anyone who loves and cares about our country.

How do we move forward to make sure Trump is never president again?

Very sad indeed. How 90 minutes can destroy the American Dream.

It was devastating, but I think we still need to take a breath and evaluate. But there is no room for error, the stakes are enormous.

This will be used at libitum by the MAGA movement until November

No question about that. This has been their talking point and now they have actual ammunition. Ironically Biden is speaking at a rally this afternoon in North Carolina and he sounds strong, has color back in his face, but I fear the damage is done. Few people are seeing it as opposed to last nights debate, many of whom likely turned off the TV after 15 minutes and made up their mind.

The Dems must find a better candidate before it’s too late. This travesty should have been prevented from happening in the first place.

Many are mentioning Gavin Newsomes but friends inCA are none too pleased with him. From a friend in CA:”Anyone in California, specifically L.A., who can bear the truth about Newsome’s impact on the quality of life for poor and rich, the crime policies, the homeless….
There’s so much destruction because of Newsome and people are looking away.
I understand the desperate need to put a Democrat in place, but PLEASE, not Gavin”

I might be called an ageist for saying this. The DNC needs to look for a younger candidate for President. I was thinking, “What happened to generation X?” Most should be in their 50’s by now.

I hope generation X didn’t sell-out and vote Republican. I dunno. I hope there’s a dark horse out there somewhere.

Hey Sally, it was so painful to watch and I’m still completely demoralized. As a long time CA girl, it’s such a complicated place. Much of our tax dollars support the poor red states. I personally would LOVE to see Gavin debate Trump, he’d destroy him with his rambling lunatic word salad.

I think whomever our candidate is, they should just skip answering the posed questions and jump all over tRumps record(s) on all issues.
