Grateful For The Gifts of the New Year

“May the curses of this year cease and may the blessings of a new year arrive.”
I was walking Moe on my sun-dappled street yesterday right before sunset, moving quickly to get home in time to light my candles for Rosh Hashanah.
As the sun was fading the last rays illuminated a shiny object on the black asphalt street right at my foot that caught my eye. I bent down to pick it up, assuming it was a good luck penny but I saw it was a small silver dog tag in the shape of a bone.
The engraved inscription was clear. As was the message – Best Friends.
In a year of so much sorrow, loss, and despair for so many, this small message of gratitude for the gift I have been given will follow me into this new year.
Moe.
My best friend.
A sweet way to start the New Year.
L’Shana Tova to all my friends and family for a sweet New Year filed with hope and light.
