On the morning after the Presidential election in 2016, the first person who called me was my father, whose words were “ I’m sitting shiva.” Shocked and in despair we mourned together.
He is no longer here to witness the results of this election. And I am relieved.
Today I cry for our country, for my parents, my grandparents, and great-grandparents who came to this country filled with promise, all who loved this country, fought for this country, and believed in the possibility of America.

I’m crying with you!!

We are in shock and despair and disbelief. The magnitude of the win points to who Americans are, Americans I don’t know or recognize. But fear.

I woke up this morning and thought “Oh, *this* is the country I live in!” Not shocked at all. It’s who we are.

The realization of who we are is sobering and distressing. I am shocked at how decisively he won. Did not see that coming. I was so hoping for a blue wave, but now Im just drowning in tears.

We shall get through this. Time for both parties to get their houses in order, reign in the extremes and get ready for the next election.
