On Tuesday she posted a video reading a scathing letter to senators about her cousin Bobby Kennedy Jr. in which she called Trump’s nominee to head the Department of Health and Human Service a predator who is completely unqualified for this position.
“He lacks any relevant government, financial, management, or medical experience,” she said. “His views on vaccines are dangerous and willfully misinformed.

The Kennedys are a clannish family, with a long history of loyalty and protecting their own.
It pained her to have to do this.
You could hear it in her measured voice. See it in her eyes. It was not easy.
This is a woman with an unblemished history, with not a whiff of scandal, professionally or personally. She is a distinguished author, diplomat, and attorney.
Caroline Kennedy could not let it stand.
Bobby Jr. has been an exploiter, a grifter, and a charmer without credentials or record.
Bobby Kennedy is a blemish on that storied name.
The life and death of the American people trumped family loyalty.

She would have made a great politician, and she was very smart not to become one.

Her mother was very wise to keep both Caroline and her brother away from the more ruckous Ethel Kennedy brood. I don’t believe she is temperamentally suited to be a politician but has has been a perfect diplomat.

Let’s see if the Senate heeds her advice. I suspect if they confirmed Hegseth, they aren’t going to have any reservations about RFK Jr. Can’t believe it matters anyway. The Trump administration is a steamroller crushing everything in it’s path. IF not RFK, the next one will be just as bad and maybe more stealthy.
I had an interesting experience yesterday. I wrote a blog post 7 years ago lambasting the lack of diversity and absence of strong Black characters on The Walking Dead. The essay has been shared on Reddit dozens of times and is one of my most regularly read posts. I’ve never received a negative comment on it… until yesterday. “Your woke agenda is officially dead.” I didn’t even try to argue. The entire country has caved at once.
I’m thankful for Caroline’s stance, but I don’t think it will do any good. At think at this point, all we can do is hold on until the economy starts tanking and hopefully Trump’s supporters will have a change of heart.

That is so revealing that your essay has elicited that kind of a comment right now. I think that is the sort of reaction we are going to be getting more and more. In the past year, I have had more hateful and vile comments on my blog than in the 12 years I have been publishing it. I only expect it to accelerate.
I too am not certain that Caroline’s voice will change anything,but in this bleakness and despair, hers was a good voice to hear. I too suspect even if RFK Jr doesn’t his alternative will be no great shakes. I suspect they will all be railroaded in, God Help us.

Trumpers are a cult. They believe he can do no wrong. He is all powerful and godlike and anyone who doesn’t agree can go to Guantanamo. If the economy tanks, they will just continue to blame Biden and Obama because they’ve been told by Trump and Fox News that they are the reason for all of our ills. Trumpers believe only he can save us from the woke disease.
