Save the Christians, Lose the Jews

Returning home from a walk with my dog Moe yesterday afternoon, I had a premonition  I had never felt before.  As I approached the outside entrance to my office, my eye suddenly went from the blue and white  Kamala Harris- Madam President sticker on the white wooden door to the brass, family heirloom mezuzah nailed on the doorpost.

Half in jest I remarked to my husband Hersh that perhaps publicly displaying these two unrelated items could get us in trouble during Trump’s regime. Were these two different outward expressions of my beliefs now signifiers of potential enemies of the state?

I was half joking.

Now I’m not laughing.

At a time of rising anti-Semitism in our country, tone-deaf Trump is ordering Attorney General Pam Bondi to set up a “task force” to “eradicate anti-Christian bias” within the United States and prosecute instances of “anti-Christian violence and vandalism.”

Protect the Underdog Christians

The new task force will be directed to “immediately halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government”, Trump said. He claimed the “persecution” under the Biden administration was “absolutely terrible.”

Trump made it sound as though Biden was feeding Christians to the lions as in ancient Rome.

A presidential commission to protect Christians from religious discrimination?

Tell that to the Jews of my parent’s generation who could not enter Ivy League schools if the quota had been met. Barred from hotels, country clubs, and neighborhoods.

The word “restricted” was well understood even in my generation.

In the past two years, I have been called a Kike, a Hebe and a Christ killer. I have had a swastika drawn on my video poster online. My Holocaust survivor husband was called a “dirty Jew” in his own front yard.

We’ve Heard This Before

The push for Christian Nationalism is not new,

A few years ago Marjorie Taylor Green spoke in favor of Christian nationalism declaring that anyone who opposes it is a domestic terrorist.

Spreading lies, deception, and hate this Georgia peach may be delusional and dimwitted but she is dangerous. In fact, she is rotten to the core. She was not a rogue kook spouting these thoughts on Twitter.

She was a sitting member of Congress.

Echoing others Green said that Christian nationalism is nothing to fear, it is a “good thing” and is the only thing that can stop school shootings, crime, and sexual immorality.

“We should be proud of an American First Nationalism” she declared.  “It is a great thing that will Save America.”

And now they have an improbable ally in the Oval Office -a multiple adulterer, convicted sex offender, felon. But a Christian.

In God We Trust

Christian Nationalism is not benign.

It is not new. It has a long history. It is being revived.

It is dangerous, and a threat to the bedrock American values of religious freedom and separation of church and state.

While I’m in the White House,“ Trump declared “we will protect Christians in our schools, in our military, in our government, in our workplaces, hospitals, and in our public squares. And we will bring our country back together as one nation under God.”

One nation.

One God.

I will be praying to God for the safety of this country.

Just not the right one.

    Sally,

He’s a CINO, Christian in Name Only. I’m sure Jesus and other enlightened beings are thinking he’s going to need a thousand more lifetimes to evolve past all the hate and pain caused from this one.

Expect Christian prayer everywhere in the coming years. There is so much going on, it’s hard to figure out where to direct my fear. But as a family of nonchristians, I’m suddenly very worried for my children.

There will very soon I suspect be mandatory school prayer. What else will happen in the classroom is extremely concerning. There is too much to fear simultaneously and that is part of their “flooding the zone” plan as it is too much at once to absorb so we become overwhelmed. Now they have approved Russ Vought a chief architect of Project 2025 to oversee the Fed government entire budget office. With a deep Christian slant we are in for big trouble.

This is scary. And the magnitude of fear generated by this intentional chaos is terrifying. We have to stand up to this.
