We may be a Prozac Nation, but the more important point is we are a Gun Nation.
I have been on SSRIs since their inception and never once had the urge to go on a rampage and shoot down innocent children.
SSRIs may have saved my life, not caused me to take the lives of others.
Without any evidence, Robert Kennedy Jr is linking SSRIs and mass shootings. The unsubstantiated anti-depressant medication claim is another wacko example of his contradicting established science.
It’s the guns you moron.
It always is.
Medical Breakthrough
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, SSRIs began in the early 1970s when researchers at Eli Lilly started developing drugs to enhance serotonin neurotransmission for depression, which led to the creation of fluoxetine (Prozac). Fluoxetine was approved by the FDA in 1987, marking the arrival of the first SSRI offering medications with lower side effects than earlier antidepressants.
It was one of the most significant breakthroughs in psychiatric medicine. It has gone on to other newer generations like Zolofft and Lexipro
These drugs are necessary. For many, including me, the difference between life and death. As someone with suicidal ideation, the prescription drugs I take help stabilize me.
Only someone with a worm in their brain or a bent toward eugenics would twist science like RFK Jr does.
Mental health problems are universal. Gun problems are not. They are an American-grown malady that we seem not to be able to cure, though the answer is right in front of us.
Gun Control.
We are a Gun Nation, and that fact makes me very depressed.
A fact that no anti depression can cure.

This is so absolutely on target. We’re in the hands of a someone who is pushing a personal agenda that has been repeatedly debunked by scientists and science journalists. RFKj is being allowed, if not encouraged, to do this because it aligns with a strategy to make people distrust government and fall for the for the Trump ploy to convince his base that only he can be trusted.

it is a perfect storm of misinformation, and manipulation and strong man tactics. When fascism aligns with a crackpot its truly lethal.

Treatment of depression is a global health concern, yet only the United States has more mass shootings (far more) than days elapsed in 2025 (As of July 31st, 268 mass shootings versus 212 days). End easy access to weapons of war and those numbers will drop. There is no acceptable reason that any citizen needs to own a gun that fires multiple shots per second. To paraphrase a comment by Golda Meir, a former Prime Minister of Israel, “When they love their children more than they love their guns, this will stop!”

As has often been stated, mental health is a universal problem, mass shooting is not. We do seem to love our guns more than our citizens.
