Trump’s UN Speech: A Dismantling of American Leadership

I am mortified.

What we witnessed at the UN on Tuesday was the abdication of an American President as Leader of the Free World.

Trump’s unhinged, incoherent lunacy was on full display for all the horrified world to see.

On Truth Social,  his minions described his speech as “fiery.”

It was more like a dumpster fire.

For the sane world, it was nothing short of torching our 80 year run as the leader of the free world, the beacon of hope for democracy.

After WWII it was beyond doubt that the United States was an exceptional nation with a special role to play in human history. Even before the United States entered the war, Henry Luce, the influential publisher of Life magazine, wrote an essay in 1941 in which he declared that the twentieth century should be considered “the American Century.”

Luce argued that the United States must “accept wholeheartedly our duty and our opportunity as the most powerful and vital nation in the world and in consequence to exert upon the world the full impact of our influence … [with] … a passionate devotion to great American ideals.”

By 1945, Luce’s vision seemed correct. The United States not only stood victorious but also was the undisputed leader of the Free World and defender of democracy .

That now lies in the ashbin of history.

Lunacy and Lies

Trump’s lies at the United Nations ran neck and neck with lunacy.

“Climate change is the biggest con job perpetrated on the world,” said the world’s biggest con man.

“Carbon footprint is a hoax,” says the snake oil salesman to the world.

Fresh from his Charlie Kirk Memorial tour, he claimed: “The most persecuted religion on the planet. It’s called Christianity.”

And these were his more coherent comments.

And the bragging….

The most humiliating part was his bragging…about his hats.

“During the campaign, they had a hat, the best-selling hat, ‘Trump was right about everything,’” he told the gathered world leaders while discussing climate change. “And I don’t say that in a bragging way, but it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.”

It’s time for you to switch hats, Donald, and opt for a straitjacket emblazoned “Trump was Right about Nothing.
