Young Republicans Same Old Hate

Yesterday, as I was working on a poster for a friend to use for the New York City “No Kings” March on Saturday, I got an email from my conservative older brother asking, “Are you going to the No Kings Day march (aka ‘Hate America’) on Saturday?”

Hate America?

Just the opposite.

“How about I Love America, and I want our democracy back?” I shot back, outraged.  I marched in June, and I will keep marching every month if necessary.

Protesting the hijacking of our country by an authoritarian. What could be more American?

Curious, I decided to check out Twitter if there was any buzz on “Hate America” and the ugly phrase was trending. Spearheaded by Speaker Mike Johnson, members of Congress were publicly calling the No Kings Rally on October 18 a Hate America Rally.

Over and over like a mantra  I read “Democrats hate America and Americans.”

Hate Americans?

Racist Young Republican’s Venom Leaked

Meanwhile, the real hate for America and Americans was being spewed in chat groups by a bunch of young Republicans.

Oops.

Leaked messages show just how racist, misogynistic, antisemitic, and homophobic good Jesus-loving Republicans actually are.

It turns out that behind closed doors, Republicans are just as hateful as we imagined.

No matter their age.

Hate has always existed. It’s spewed behind closed doors, at private dinner parties, whispered in smoky bars, and posh private clubs. Now, a door to the disturbing room has been flung open and laid bare.

A bombshell exposé published in Politico  on Tuesday reveals thousands of messages exchanged on Telegram by rising Young Republicans calling opponents “monkeys,” celebrating gas chambers, and flirting with rape fantasies all behind the veil of encrypted chat.

Sadism Goes Hand and Hand with Antisemitism

In those texts, they did more than strategize politics.. They spoke freely of “putting voters in gas chambers,” and praised Hitler. Peter Giunta, chair of the New York State Young Republicans, wrote: “Everyone who votes no is going to the gas chamber … Great, I love Hitler.” In response, Joe Maligno, the general counsel for the New York Young Republicans, quipped, “Can we fix the showers? Gas chambers don’t fit the Hitler aesthetic.” New York national committeewoman Annie Kaykaty replied, “I’m ready to watch people burn now.”

We’re talking about Young Republican leaders — including state chairs, national committee members, and even government staffers — calling Black people “monkeys” and “watermelon people.”

Giunta bragged about “creating the greatest psychological torture methods known to man.” His colleagues — from Kansas, Arizona, Vermont, and New York — chimed in with Nazi references, Holocaust jokes, and homophobic slurs that would make even the darkest corners of 4chan blush. At one point, one of them literally said, “Great. I love Hitler.”

The chat messages included Young Republicans leaders from New York, Kansas, Arizona and Vermont

These are not fringe extremists, unemployed incels glued to their iPhones in their parents’ finished basement. These are Young Republicans embedded in party structure, some holding public roles or career staff positions, the very people being groomed as future leaders of the Republican party.

Raised on American first, fed a toxic diet of Fox News, weaned on Tucker Carlson, this is what Trump’s America has produced.

The “party of Lincoln” has become the party of white supremacy, misogyny, and violence — and they’re proud of it.

These are the next generation of Trump Party leaders.

Who hates Americans? I think the answer is pretty clear.

You are on the right side of history. People like your brother and the Young Republicans are not.

Your brother appears to side with the deplorables. What does he think he’s getting in return for that? Sad.

As a young republican myself, I think the No Kings protests are a bit ridiculous. I’m not a huge fan of Trump (his economic policy is genuinely terrifying), and I’m with you on the general sentiment that presidents should stop pushing the limits of their power and funneling their agenda through executive orders and emergency powers. But calling him an authoritarian king is a bit extreme for me.

As for the leaked messages, what they said was downright disturbing. I hope you know they are not a reflection of conservatives as a whole. You mentioned your older brother, and I hope that outside of the annoying jokes he sends you, your brother is evidence of that. I think we just need to be better at directing our outrage, because most conservatives you’ll meet in passing on the street would be just as disgusted by those comments as you.

Anyway, your post was well-written and entertaining to read regardless. Hope you have a good week ahead!

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I certainly agree these were just some bad apples in the group and not reflective of most Republicans in general. Sadly it feels as though the Republican Party has been hijacked and doesn’t resemble the Republican Party of my youth. My father was a Republican quite active in the party and was a Jacob Javits sort of Republican.
I hope those who are more sensible can reclaim the party from the MAGA group.

I completely agree. The Republican Party has definitely lost its way a bit. But I’m holding out hope that once the MAGA mess fizzles out, you’ll finally see the light and join us on the conservative side haha.

Not the most ardent Jacob Javits fan, but he strikes me as a principled man. I’m sure your father was the same.

Principled is the defining term. And yes my father was very principled and very devoted to the Republican party from the time he was a young man likely as a reaction to FDR. I have been a die hard Democrat since I was a child so the chances of ever switching are pretty slim. But I hope the Republicans right their course, get rid of the MAGA infestation and be the party it once was.
