Lincoln Elected President Today

As I was swimming laps today in the pool, I looked up at a dry-erase whiteboard hanging on the wall. In handwriting, it lists the date, the weather, the time of sunrise and sunset, and at the bottom is the fact of the day.

In large letters, it stated: “Abraham Lincoln was first elected president on November 6, 1860.”

It made me choke up at the thought of the man who once occupied the White House.

Lincoln took office at the darkest of times, confronted with a nation divided, and through his leadership preserved the United States as a single nation and successfully led the effort to abolish slavery.

A masterful communicator who used his eloquence to articulate the nation’s ideals to inspire people.

Today, we get gibberish, a word salad spewing from a demented man cosplaying president.

When I think of the vile, immoral, moron who we today call commander in chief, my stomach turns. A president whose only connection to Lincoln is his obsession with remodeling Honest Abe’s bathroom.
