Donald Trump Our Un Woke President

My husband may fall asleep in front of the TV. Donald Trump falls asleep on live TV.

I have observed my 80-year-old husband nod off on the couch watching TV. I’ve seen his head tucked into his chest, eyes shut, asleep while he is sitting at his computer.

When I gently mention this to him, he gets indignant, vigorously denying he’s sleeping. “I’m just resting my eyes,” he says defensively.

But never has he ever fallen asleep mid-conversation with me, or while seated at a table in conversation with others.  And the conversations are a lot less important than the war in Ukraine, accusations of war crimes, or the state of our nation.

Dozy Don Does It Again

Yet, Trump, our 79-year-old Rip Van Winkle president, struggles to keep his eyes open and stay awake at important cabinet meetings.

The difference is my husband is not a psychotic, up all night rage tweeting on Truth Social like a bad case of the runs.

Trump was burning the midnight oil Monday night as he furiously sent out a blitzkrieg of 160 social media posts over the course of 5 hours. Some messages were coming in faster than one a minute, bombarding Truth Social with his usual unhinged missives of hate, conspiracies, lies, and self-praise.

Jimmy Kimmel displayed a collage of his postings

Jimmy Kimmel put up the maniacal postings on his show that night, noting: “It was snowing in Washington today and there was a blizzard last night — an avalanche of angry posts on Truth Social from guess who,”.

“Our president, and I know I’ve said this before but for real this time, he went completely off the rails last night. The man who’s allegedly running the country banged out an onslaught of posts and reposts in a furious social media blitzkrieg that started at 7:09 p.m., went on nonstop until almost midnight. From 7 p.m. to 12 p.m. he posted 160 times. It’s an average of every two minutes for five hours straight.”

The deranged media blitz ran the gamut from attacks on political foes, conspiracy attacks to lavish self-praise

His usual hit list included favorites like Gavin Newsom, Tim Walz, and Ilhan Omar. Nancy Pelosi made the list, as did Barack Obama,  Joe Biden, and the former FBI chief, James Comey.

Numerous other posts were typically self-congratulatory. One video, reposted twice, features the Republican Florida congressman Byron Donalds talking up Trump’s agenda, alongside adulatory commentary hailing him as “the greatest president to ever live.”

Another states that Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democratic congresswoman now serving as Trump’s director of national intelligence, is in possession of documents “exposing” Obama’s leadership in the “Russiagate hoax” against Trump during his first term.

In yet another, Trump reposted the easily disprovable claim that millions of illegal immigrants “registered to vote, and have voted” in US elections, despite it being illegal to do so.

And a video Trump shared from the discredited Infowars founder Alex Jones included a caption claiming “Michelle Obama may have used Biden’s autopen in the final days of his disastrous administration to pardon key individuals”.

Another, in keeping with the season, celebrates Trump’s claim that “Christmas is officially great again”, with a still of himself and actor Macaulay Culkin in a scene from the movie Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

These behaviors should be a red flag for mental instability

Trump falls asleep on live TV, and alarms should be going off. If this had been Joe Biden, this would have had 24/7 coverage and speculation about his overt decline

We can’t afford to sleepwalk through this nightmare.

None of this is normal.

Those under him fear what will happen to them if he goes away, and they should.

He is about to bottom out. But in his diminished capacity, he is more dangerous than ever. It’s a wake up call for every American. It’s been said so many times: Everything he touches fails and fails horribly.
