For far too long the media ignored Bill Cosby’s accusers. Ronan Farrow says we are doing the same to Woody Allen, who’s alleged history of sexual abuse has been glossed over by the same media. (L) NY Daily News Headline Dec. 31, 2015 (R) Woody Allen in “Manhattan” photo: MGM

We live in a culture of looking the other way.

In Ronan Farrow’s gripping piece “My Father Woody Allen and the Danger of  Questions Unasked”  that recently ran in the Hollywood reporter,  he asks us not to look away.

The same powerful publicity machines that protected Bill Cosby for so many years, are doing the same to Woody Allen.

“That kind of silence isn’t just wrong,” he writes.” It’s dangerous. It sends a message to victims that it’s not worth the anguish of coming forward. It sends a message about who we are as a society what we’ll overlook, who we’ll ignore, who matters and who doesn’t.”

I was once encouraged to be silent.

Decades later, the  damage of being silenced lingers still.

  1. Damn. I wasn’t expecting those last two sentences Sally. I’m very sorry. 😦

Instead of commenting what I was orginally going to say, about Cosby, Allen, and the celebrity list goes on… I will leave it to you to choose the general subject or your personal experience, if either of them at all. ❤

I will briefly say this, any and all illegal male behavior protected (hidden) by 'Name & Power' must first be brought out into the light despite risking slander-counter charges, then duely punished. We are not quite there yet — as was seen with the O.J. Simpson debacle — but I hope we are getting there. The education, the moral-ethical social reprogramming, and the fight must go on.

I was thinking of Monica Lewinski as I was reading this.
    As for the justice system…
It has become a BIG business.
I hope I won’t get sued for saying this.

  4. I always change the channel when a Chris Brown song comes on the radio much to the groans of dismay from my teen daughter, because I refuse to support a man who abuses women. I hope I’m teaching my daughter’s that it’s not enough to just stand up for what’s right. We need to stand against what’s wrong.
