In the retro world of Republicans, women still take a back seat when it comes to controlling their own bodies and their health, and as in this 1934 car advertisement, without any safety precautions it’s a dangerous ride indeed.
A Retro Ride
Nervous Dot the Democrat is sure glad that Bette’s husband Dick drives a Chevrolet. Men can be real speed demons on the road but with Republican Dick every ride is big and steady!
Dot and Bette agree : If husbands must drive fast…make sure its a Chevrolet.
The 2 gals in this 1934 vintage Chevrolet ad could sit back, relax enjoy a cigarette and some good gossip letting Dick take the wheel without any worries.
“You know how men are, sometimes – behind the wheel of a car,'” the ad begins. “They want to get places in a hurry…pass all others at the traffic lights...’make time’ on the open road.”
“Now from the woman’s viewpoint, that’s all very well, provided,” the ad assured the reader, “the car is a safe, sure-footed easily controlled Chevrolet.”
“Then you can let speed-loving husbands step along to their heart’s content – explore the full range of its 80 horsepower performance – and who cares?”
With 1934 Dick behind the wheel, who needed seat belts, air bags or even safety glass?
Today, nearly 70 years later men are still in the driver’s seat, as Mike Pence and a dozen white men decide whether maternity care should be considered essential health care.
Women are relegated to the back seat once again, without any safety precautions.
Envisioning The American Dream 
It often surprises me how far we have yet to go in this “race” for women’s rights. So much has changed, and yet, not. We have evolved enough for us as women to see an ad such as this and know it’s unacceptable, and yet, that room full of men deciding our fate still exists. I really like how you put these two together images together, side by side, thank you.

Looks like the FDA is not going to give Dr. Ryan the thumbs up to his medication, AHCA (pronounced ahchoo). The side effects are way too bad

But how many women are trying to be in a place of power to make these decisions as opposed to “marching?” Who is actually doing rather than chanting and reposting and arguing online?

Some are. You can find them with a Google search. There are also liberal men running.
Protest has its place. Lawmakers and other people see that a chunk of the population wishes to be heard. They can’t say there’s a silent majority that’s in favor of something when it seems that half the town/county/state is loudly denouncing it. Instead, they either have to minimize it or DO THEIR JOBS by listening.

Well see, then that’s the problem. It shouldn’t take internet researching, these people should be well-known by word-of-mouth rather than research.
But I’m unsure how much we can pass to Republican men being unwilling when we have had a Democrat president for eight years. What has he done for pregnant women? I think it is a bad habit that we’ve been in for too rather than one party being guilty of this.
