I could never have imagined when I got this John Lennon doll in 1964 and listened to the Beatle’s “Can’t Buy Me Love” on this globe transistor radio, that he might one day be celebrating being 80 years old.
If only he was. Imagine!
Happy Birthday, John!
Had he imagined Donald Trump when he wrote
Instant Karma’s gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you’re gonna be dead.
What in the world you thinking of
…What on earth you tryin’ to do?
Instant Karma’s gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
You better get yourself together. Who on earth d’you think you are? A superstar?

I miss John every single day like he was a personal friend of mine. In a lot of ways, he WAS a personal friend of mine. & of all of us.

Sally, many thanks for raising a glass to John Lennon. If you have seen the movie “Yesterday” about a local singer who is one of three people to remember The Beatles after a freak accident, the most emotional part of the movie occurs toward the end. If you have not seen it, I will be quiet.
I have shared before “Imagine” is one of the greatest songs ever written. He had a gift of making things very simple, the more powerful the message. When The Beatles recorded “All you need is love” on live TV, he and Paul kept it simple for people whose English was a second or third language. Keith

I did see “ Yesterday” and adored it it. It was one of the hundreds of movies I’ve seen during the pandemic. Interesting observation about making the lyrics more accessible to non English speaking people.

May I suggest the “LennoNYC” episode of American Masters on PBS. Much better than fake Hollywood movies.
