Although I vowed a blackout in watching Trump’s inauguration, the pull to bear witness to history was too great.
It was impossible for me to not watch history as it unfolded in real-time.
Every horrid moment.
I watched because I needed to ingest it all not merely in edited sound bites and clips. What I witnessed wasn’t simply another presidential inauguration. It was Margarett Atwood meets Nazi Germany meets Psycho
America was watching- even if through two different lenses.
Americans viewed the inauguration in the same ways we had during the election, which brought us to this horrid day.
We both saw the same event but the takeaway was vastly different.
Some Americans saw a day of celebration and pride with a return to a new Golden Age. I saw a day filled with cruelty, fear, anger, retribution, and Nazi salutes
I watched a vengeful, petty man disrespect former presidents sitting feet from him.
In the live wide shots, I could see the pain in Joe Biden’s face as Trump spoke. The former president looked down, his eyes shut tight, head shaking in disbelief, his hands clenched as he heard his four years of good works dismissed by a would-be dictator.
Those who watched saw it, but the takeaway was vastly different.
In God We Trust
It was a coronation sanctioned by God. Trump confirmed that by asserting “I was saved by God for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again.”
I saw a huckster, a bible salesman who couldn’t even see fit to place his hand on the Bible as he was sworn in. In 100 years no president had ever done that
I saw a needy narcissist who projected his own wounds and own deep-seated need to be the best, to be the envy of everyone in the world, projected onto America. No one, he promised would laugh at America again.
That is true. Few will laugh. They may, though, cry. Cry at where our once great country is headed, at what is being lost and destroyed.
Few in the world envy us, now because of you.
Who would envy having Donald Trump at the helm?
Not my America
God Save US

I think the fact that Melania hid her eyes under that ridiculous hat said it all. It felt like she was in mourning too. G_d save us, indeed.

There is so much that can be read into Melanias very purposefully chosen outfit. It did indeed look as though in mourning, others likened it to a Soviet Spy such as Spy vs Spy in MAD Magazine, others suggested an imperious outfit. Shrouded in mystery, she appeared cold, distant detached and ominous. Ivanka too has been criticized for her chosen look which many likened to outfits worn in the Handmaidens Tale.

Trump is a man of multiple contradictions. His inaugural day and opening address exemplified that. He talks of being saved by God, but refuses to touch the Bible while taking the oath of office. He wants to be a “unifier,” but immediate desecrates and denigrates all those who he considers his enemies or those who didn’t vote for him. He says he is a peacemaker, but then declares he will take back the Panama Canal by force if necessary. He demands subservience and loyalty, but doesn’t grasp the concept that he works for us. America hired him. America can also fire him, as we did once before. The trick in 2028 will be finding the additional 2% of the electorate needed to hand him a pink slip. Until then we have to put up with his hateful rhetoric and his need to be at the center of every conversation. God help us indeed!

Trump is the master of saying things he knows people want to hear but has no intention of following through. To call himself the great unifyer is absurd. Just as absurd as to paint himself a Christian.
