Democracy Dies in Silence

In deep red MAGA country, Suffolk County, New York, over a thousand Americans stood shoulder to shoulder on Saturday afternoon to protest  Donald Trump and reclaim their democracy.

It felt good to stand with them. I knew this scene of protestors was being repeated in thousands of towns and cities simultaneously.

The stream of cars rolling down the street honking their horns in support of the protestors was suddenly disrupted as a caravan of oversized Trump trucks along with a mock Presidential limousine festooned with banners and flags blustered down the street, sending out the ear splitting horn of a freight train in an effort to disrupt the peaceful protest.

The sound echoed the loud bluster of Trump’s lies.

The cry from the crowd was deafening.  A confrontation ensued, and the police sent the Trumpers on their way, blocking the streets to prevent further  Trump disruption.

These same Suffolk County police, likely Trump supporters themselves, followed the law.

Law above politics.

This is what democracy looks like.

If only it were that easy to get rid of Trump himself

There is a growing tide and democracy is the theme. This is beyond politics. People such as you on the front lines are more than symbolic. There’s hope they will embolden others and the movement will become stronger. Thank you for being there.

I have seen Musks quote about empathy being a negative/weak quality though the lack of empathy is also the sign of a sociopath. And sadly that is where we are headed. There was a time when we had a president like FDR who was also wealthy but had tremendous empathy for the suffering of so many others and began implementing programs to hep those in need. For over 80 years that had been the American way.

It is a shame that our politicians lack the moral values of the average American.
