Choking on the Deluge of News

We are in a tsunami of tragedy, to the point I feel as if I am drowning and struggling to breathe.

More succinctly, I feel like Lucy Ricardo in the chocolate factory as the conveyor belt speeds up,

Minnesota, ICE, murder, arrests, beatings, lies, rage, hate, distortions, foreign invasions, compounded by Trump and his sycophants’ grotesque responses, have felt like the chocolates speeding past me on this crazy conveyor belt of information.

There’s no way to box all these chocolates, all this bad news; there are just too many of them.

We’re all just sitting here stuffing them in our shirts, putting them under our hats, our blouses, pushing them through the floor, throwing them at each other, and stuffing them in our mouths, barely swallowing them whole, undigested,  so that we choke on them, unable to digest what we just previously swallowed.

I think we are all overwhelmed by the constant onslaught of so much disturbing news that it is absolutely overwhelming and just as we begin to process one small bit, another drops, than another etc. Our minds are on overload, not equipped to process so quickly and it brought up the feeling of the Lucy episode for me.

I just came home from getting a pedicure and somehow the topic came up. My esthetician said, “We’re not allowed to talk about it. This is a spa, and you’re supposed to relax.” We all need to vent. And, we all need to take a break from it.

Both things are true. When I go to the dog park with my dog Moe it is a politics free zone and for an hour or so we all just enjoy the beauty of the park and the joy of romping dogs and it’s a good break. But once I’m home….alll bets are off.

You must be reading my mind. This deluge is wearing everyone down. Enough! I hope critical members of Congress and the Supreme Court want this craziness to end as much as a majority of Americans do. My true hope is that voters are ready to put out this dumpster fire.
