This Memorial Day, Don’t Let Them Have Died in Vain

They didn’t give their lives to live in a dictatorship.

They didn’t give their lives to a country that would turn against its people, deprive them of resources, finances, and health care.

They didn’t give their lives to a country that would attack civil liberties, allow masked thugs to roam our streets, and whisk children away to live in internment camps.

For 250 years, these soldiers and sailors and marines didn’t die in Germany or Gettysburg,  so that a man like Donald Trump could erode democratic norms and undermine the rules of law.

They didn’t die for the likes of a Donald Trump.

Neither should we.

They didn’t die so that the beacon of democracy would go dark.

It is up to us to save what they gave their lives for.
